The Room Where Your Household Really Happens
Kitchen renovations deliver more day-to-day improvement than any other project in the home, which is why Parine Renovation has built much of its 26-year reputation on them. The kitchen is where your household really happens, from weekday breakfasts and homework at the bench to long dinners with people you like.
When the layout fights you, everyone in the house feels it. When it works, the whole home works better. We design and build kitchens that combine real functionality with finishes that still look considered a decade from now.
Start with the Layout, Not the Look
Beautiful cabinetry cannot rescue a poor plan. Almost every frustrating kitchen we are called to has the same underlying problem: the working relationship between the sink, the cooktop and the fridge is wrong, or the main circulation path runs straight through the middle of the preparation zone. Before we discuss a single door profile, we map how the room is used. Who cooks, how many people are in the space at once, where the groceries land, where the bins live and where the traffic flows.
From that analysis we develop a layout that puts the right things within reach of each other and moves everything else out of the way. Galley, L-shaped, U-shaped, island or peninsula, the correct configuration is dictated by the room and the household rather than by fashion. Getting the plan right is what makes a kitchen feel effortless, and it costs nothing extra to think it through properly at the start.

Custom Cabinetry Is Where Kitchens Are Won
Our cabinetry is made to measure, and this is the biggest single reason our kitchens hold their value. Standard modular units force compromise around every irregular wall, service duct and bulkhead, and Melbourne homes are full of all three. Custom joinery uses the full available space, resolves awkward corners properly, and lets us design storage around your own possessions instead of a generic assumption.
In practice that means deep drawers rather than deep cupboards, so you can see everything without kneeling. Full-height pantries with pull-out shelving. Dedicated appliance cupboards that keep benchtops clear. Corner solutions that make otherwise wasted volume usable. Integrated bin systems, cutlery and utensil inserts, spice drawers and soft-close hardware throughout. These are the details you interact with several times a day, and they are what separates a kitchen that merely looks good from one that is satisfying to use.
Trusted Brands & Premium Materials
We partner with leading suppliers to ensure every renovation is built using high-quality, durable materials. These trusted brands help us deliver exceptional finishes designed to stand the test of time.

Benchtops, Splashbacks and Surfaces That Last
Benchtops absorb more punishment than any other surface in a house, so material selection matters. Since the national prohibition on engineered stone took effect in July 2024, the realistic shortlist for most Melbourne kitchens is natural stone such as granite or marble, porcelain slab, compliant low-silica and silica-free surfaces, solid timber, or quality laminate. We only specify products that meet current requirements and can be fabricated and installed safely, and we will talk you through how each one behaves in daily use.
The differences are practical rather than theoretical. Porcelain is extremely hard-wearing and highly resistant to heat, scratching and staining, with slimline profiles that suit a contemporary look. Natural stone offers depth and character that manufactured products struggle to replicate, though marble in particular needs sealing and a tolerance for patina. Timber brings warmth and can be sanded and reoiled over its life. Laminate remains a legitimate choice where budget is the priority, and modern finishes are far better than their reputation suggests. Edge profiles, slab thickness and waterfall ends change the character of a kitchen substantially, often more noticeably than colour does.
Splashbacks are one of the best-value opportunities in any kitchen, because a relatively small area of premium tile, stone, porcelain or glass carries a great deal of visual weight. Getting the balance right between benchtop, splashback, cabinetry and flooring is exactly what our 3D-rendered designs are built to resolve, letting you see the full combination at scale before a single slab is ordered or a single tile is cut.

Lighting, Power and the Practical Details
Good kitchens are properly lit. That means layered lighting rather than a single ceiling fitting: task lighting under overhead cabinetry where you prepare food, ambient lighting for the room as a whole, and feature lighting over an island or open shelving. It also means enough power outlets in the right places, correctly positioned rangehood ventilation, and appliance selections planned into the cabinetry rather than squeezed in afterwards.
This level of planning is what distinguishes professionally managed kitchen renovations from projects assembled by separate uncoordinated trades. Parine Renovation manages the design, joinery, plumbing, electrical, tiling, stonework and installation as one coordinated program, which means the electrician knows where the island pendants go before the ceiling is closed up and the plumber knows the sink position before the stone is templated. Fewer surprises, fewer compromises and a far cleaner result.
Working with What You Have
Not every kitchen needs to be gutted. Sometimes the layout is fundamentally sound and the best value comes from new cabinetry fronts, a new benchtop and splashback, updated tapware and better lighting. Other times a single wall removal transforms a closed-off kitchen into the open-plan living space the rest of the house is asking for.
We will tell you which situation you are in, including when a smaller intervention is the smarter investment. Straight advice at the front end is a large part of why our clients come back to us for their next project. Where structural change is involved, we handle it properly, with registered building practitioners, engineering input where required, and full management of the approvals process.

Our Process and Your Timeline
The path is the same on every project. A free in-home consultation to understand your goals and budget. Detailed measurement and an itemised quotation with clear inclusions. 3D-rendered designs and final selections. Manufacture of your custom joinery, followed by coordinated construction and installation. Then a final walkthrough and handover, backed by our seven-year workmanship warranty.
Most kitchens run four to six weeks on site depending on scope, with cabinetry manufacturing happening in parallel beforehand. Stone benchtops are templated after cabinetry installation, which typically adds a short gap between install and completion. We are up front about that sequence from the beginning, including practical advice on setting up a temporary kitchen so your household keeps functioning while the work is underway.
Budget, Value and Transparency
Kitchen costs vary widely because the scope varies widely. Cabinetry volume, benchtop material, appliance selections, structural work and services relocation are the main drivers. Our approach is to establish a realistic budget in the first conversation, then design to it rather than presenting you with something unaffordable and negotiating backwards. Every quote is itemised so you can see exactly where the money goes, and you can make informed choices about where to invest and where to hold back.

Serving Melbourne and Surrounding Suburbs
We work throughout Melbourne and the surrounding suburbs from our base at 398 St Kilda Road, St Kilda. Whether you are in a Victorian terrace that needs a clever compact solution or a larger family home ready for a full open-plan reconfiguration, we would be glad to look at it.
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before starting your project with Parine Renovation.
Can I remove a wall to open my kitchen up to the living area?
Often yes, but it needs to be assessed properly rather than assumed. If the wall is load-bearing it can still be removed, with a correctly sized beam and appropriate support designed by an engineer and covered by a building permit. Non-load-bearing walls are simpler, although services running through them still need relocating. We establish which situation you are in early, because it materially affects both budget and program.
Which benchtop material should I choose?
This has changed significantly since the national prohibition on engineered stone took effect in July 2024, so the shortlist for most kitchens is now natural stone, porcelain, compliant low-silica or silica-free surfaces, solid timber, or quality laminate. Each has different characteristics for heat, staining, chip resistance and maintenance, and price varies widely. We walk you through the trade-offs and work only with materials that meet current requirements and can be fabricated and installed safely.
Do I need to upgrade my electrical or gas supply?
Sometimes. Older switchboards frequently lack the capacity or circuit protection for a modern kitchen, and induction cooktops in particular require a dedicated high-load circuit. If you are moving from gas to electric cooking, decommissioning needs to be done by a licensed gasfitter. We identify any required upgrades during quoting so the cost is visible from the start rather than emerging once the walls are open.
How much bench space and clearance should I plan around an island?
As a practical guide, allow a minimum of 900 mm between an island and the surrounding cabinetry, and closer to 1100 mm where two people will pass or where drawers and dishwashers open into the same zone. Uninterrupted preparation space beside the cooktop matters more than total benchtop area, so we plan a clear landing zone next to the cooktop, the sink and the oven. Cramped clearances are the most common regret in otherwise attractive kitchens.
Can I keep my existing layout and just replace the doors and benchtop?
Yes, and sometimes that is the smarter investment. If the carcasses are sound, the layout functions well and the plumbing is in a sensible position, new doors and drawer fronts, a new benchtop and splashback, updated hardware and better lighting can deliver a dramatic visual change for a fraction of a full rebuild. We assess the existing cabinetry candidly and tell you when a refit is better value than a replacement.
